Its about knowing what the healthier options are wherever you go. Obviously grilled vs fried. Veggies vs french fries. Ask for a low fat or low cal dressing on salads.
Even the drive through can provide a *somewhat* healthier meal. Ask for mayo on the side so you can control how much goes on. Don't supersize your combo. If they have fruit or salads, ask if that can be a substitute for french fries. Again, grilled over fried; and lay off the salt!!

Well there is always looking up calories for different places.
For us on our trip we actually stuck to Subway. We didn't stop many places and when we did that's where we went. I'm pretty sure I will do the same thing on my road trip home this year.
